Hello?

So this is where I have been for the past month:

Wrists

I have tendonitis (De Quervains). Those black splints are so much fun! I had my choice of colors, y’all. Day glow pink! Neon Green! Bozo the Clown Red! I thought the black would go better with my work wardrobe. They slow me down to a snail’s pace. And damn, if they aren’t SEX-AY. Now I just wear them at night, so I can seduce Rohan with my ninja-like prowess. That, and the sound of velcro is a MAJOR turn on, especially at 3:30am when I have to get up in the middle of the night to pee. Watch out, ladies.

Occupational Therapy has been fun. Mostly, I have been hooked up to small electric shocks that force liquid steroids into my thumb and wrist area. It’s called Iontophoresis and it’s like being stung by bees for 20 minutes at a time. I am convinced that my therapist is a sadist.

It has helped some, but I have had to stop straining my hands. This means I haven’t gotten the last of the unpacking done. The only gardening done so far is by our lawn dude named Justin (Thank god he does landscaping). I haven’t finished my office, cleaning out the garage or anything else. AAAAAACK. I think the universe is trying to tell me something, but I just don’t want to listen.

On a happier note, our friend Minh from Australia visited this weekend, a visit that was WAY too short! We went to the Crossroad’s First Friday of June to see really awful art (Excuse me, Kansas City, but what the hell has happened to the art scene in the past two years?), ate at Lidias, saw the Sex & the City movie (I cried! Why did I cry?). Saturday, we lounged around, drank coffee at a cafe outdoors and observed the hippies in town (DEAR GOD, if you must sing out of key and abuse the ukulele while panhandling, I will give you money only if you promise to bathe, PLEASE… Aren’t I mean?) for the Wakarusa Festival .

It was so exhausting that we had to stuff ourselves with sushi for lunch (during which Rohan turned purple, why, we still haven’t figured out) and Mexican food for dinner. Minh found cute little latino waiter that she thought might fit into her suitcase. His name was Joey and he was a bit disturbed by the fact that Australians eat kangaroos. Then she offered him a business transaction for a green card. I haven’t seen Rohan laugh that hard in a very long time. We want her to come live with us forever. Or at least on the same continent so we can have weekends like this more often.

    HOLY COW!!!!

    I am so sorry!

If it makes you feel any better, Declan insist on wearing his Jayhawks shirt to bed almost every night. And yes, it comes down past his knees.

Sorry to hear about your pain Melissa, feel better soon! Would love to have sushi for lunch with you again… Chadstone just isn’t the same ;) Actually, now that I’m a “Baysider” I frequent the less posh Southland instead.

If you attached big flowers to your splints, I bet they’d be Sex & the City-worthy. I’m just sayin looks like you could be starting a new fashion trend here.

Hope the pain goes away soon!

Ouch - sounds like things have been difficult for you. I enjoyed having a look through some of your old posts though. How is the bike? I’m thinking of getting one too!

Ah. Very stylish, and I envy you. The splints I’m stuck with are OldFolk beige…
